Tisha
Tisha graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1995, with a degree in accounting. She worked on a contract basis for two small businesses while working simultaneously as a flight attendant for a private aircraft management company in order to save money to fulfill her goal of traveling in Europe for an extended period of time. She left for Europe in April of 1997 and returned13 months later.
Upon her return she worked as the Business Manager for The American Lung Association of Colorado until 2001 when she quit her job to travel for a year with her new husband. Together they traveled to The U.K., Peru, Bolivia, Kenya, Tanzania, Russia, Mongolia, and China. Immediately upon her return she decided to try yoga as a complement to her running and weight-lifting exercise program. Tisha went to Yoga on 6th to take her first yoga class in June 2002. Needless to say, having never heard of Bikram Yoga, she was surprised by the intensity of her first class. By the end of the second class she was hooked and within the first month she knew she wanted to attend the Bikram teacher training course, which she completed in May of 2003.
Shortly after Tisha began teaching Bikram Yoga she became pregnant with her first child. Though she did not practice Bikram Yoga during her first Trimester, she maintained a regular Bikram practice throughout her pregnancy, which she believes helped to keep her comfortable and sleeping like a baby up to delivery. Tisha also credits her yoga practice for her ability to maintain invaluable breathing and relaxation techniques during labor that allowed her to attain her goal of drug-free natural childbirth for both of her children.
After the birth of her daughter Maggie, Bikram Yoga helped her immensely with regard to her physical, mental, and emotional well-being especially in those early months. Tisha firmly believes that although she began practicing yoga for purely physical reasons, she has gained unlimited insight into her personal strengths and weaknesses. She feels she has obtained a greater sense of acceptance of herself, her family and others, as well as an increased openness to ideas and experiences.
